What Wireless Router Will Work With All the Things I Have?

by Wireless Broadband

in Answers

I currently have a wired router that I would like to upgrade to make it wireless. Currently I have my xbox 360, playstation 2, and my main desktop computer connected. I want to set up as wireless so that I can connect my laptop. Can I use a wire router AND a wireless router together or do I need to just convert everyting to wireless and if so what do I buy that would work?

Any wireless router will work. You won’t need to keep the old router because wireless routers also have wired Ethernet ports as well (usually 4).
You also don’t need to buy a router which states that it is for a cable/DSL modem. Those routers just have an extra Ethernet port and the router set up software is more helpful for connecting to a cable/DSL modem. It’s not worth the extra money.
For your set up, you will need a wireless router, and that’s it. The desktop physically connects to the router (usually 1 computer always does), and you can use your laptop’s built-in wireless network card to connect to the router. If your laptop doesn’t have a built-in wireless network card, then you can buy either a PC Card wireless network card or a USB one.
The router and wireless network device does not have to be from the same manufacturer.
I recommend a 108 mbps router and network card.

any wireless router would do

wireless routers do have wired ports (usually 4), so you don’t need a wired router, but if you still want to use a wired and wireless router then you can set up the wired router as the main router and the wireless router as an access point

if you buy wireless router its already has 4 ports for _wired_ connections + wireless. for home, just replace your old router with a wireless.

Theres is modems that can be wired and wireless at the same time, like this one http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16833124190 you should check that one out or something familiar.

Linksys is the best IMO and i think most wireless routers have ethernet ports so you can plug in stuff that doesnt have a wireless card, like the PS2 and Xbox
